Survey of Occupational
Injuries and Illnesses (SOII)
The annual Survey of Occupational Injuries and
Illnesses (SOII) is conducted by the Bureau of
Labor Statistics (BLS) in cooperation with
participating states. The Nevada results for this
survey are published here. Additional results for
the country and individual states can be found at
http://www.bls.gov/.
By clicking on the reference year in the menu to the
above left, you will find two types of tables and
charts: (1) The Annual Survey Information which
includes the injury and illness rates and numbers
for certain industries and case types; (2) Case and
Demographics tables and charts which show how
injuries and illnesses are distributed by various
demographic characteristics and occupations. These
documents are available in portable document format
(PDF).
Effective January 1, 2002, the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA) revised its
requirements for recording occupational injuries and
illnesses. Due to this revision, the estimates from
the 2002 survey are not comparable with those from
prior years, and the statistics for calendar year
2003 to present are far more detailed than those
previously available. In addition, table numbering
is consistent throughout the nation, which means
that some tables for Nevada will start with what
appears to be out of sequence numbering. However,
when viewed as a whole with the rest of the
statistics on
http://www.bls.gov/, they are consistent.
See
the “Background of the Survey” section on the BLS
website for additional information.
